It is now time to apply it to the canvas.<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #296272;\"><a title=\"Painting Lavender Glitter Canvas - Part 1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.artneedlethreadstitches.com\/index.php\/archives\/49\" target=\"_self\">Refer to\u00a0 &#8220;Painting Lavender Glitter Canvas &#8211; Part 1&#8221; if you missed it.<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesson #2<\/strong> Application to the canvas<\/p>\n<p>First, lay your plain white canvas and spray it with a fine mist of water. Turn it over and spray the back side too.<br \/>\nSpray just enough to feel the canvas go limp. This will help break the sizing and allow the paint to penetrate\u00a0between the fibers of \u00a0the canvas threads a bit better.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #296272;\">&#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Note 3<\/strong>: Painting the canvas is just a &#8220;coating&#8221;, the fibers of the canvas threads are not going to take up the paint like in a dyeing process. This sort of paint wash\u00a0is very permanent, but not completely penetrating. Load the brush half way with paint,\u00a0and allow the excess to drip back into the container by dragging the brush across the edge.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #296272;\">&#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apply in strokes that are parallel to each other, and overlapping slightly.\u00a0Rotate your canvas, and apply a layer of cross strokes. This will also help dislodge some of the paint tension that may develop in the canvas holes.<\/p>\n<p>Once the surface of the canvas looks even, turn the canvas over to the backside and blot with the terry cloth towel to remove the final excess paint.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artneedlethreadstitches.com\/blimg\/09\/pgc_paintblot_th\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-89\" title=\"Blot the backside of the canvas\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artneedlethreadstitches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pgc_paintblot_th.jpg\" alt=\"Blot the backside of the canvas\" width=\"364\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.artneedlethreadstitches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pgc_paintblot_th.jpg 364w, http:\/\/www.artneedlethreadstitches.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/pgc_paintblot_th-300x242.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 364px) 100vw, 364px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hold the canvas up and check for filled holes. There should be very few, but if there are some, try blowing through the canvas to break them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #296272;\">&#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Side Note:<\/strong> When I mixed the paint for this sample canvas, I did not mix enough. I decided to add a second\u00a0set of paint layers to strengthen the\u00a0color. Iron with a dedicated craft\u00a0iron\u00a0(not your good one)\u00a0on the cotton setting.
